For political and administrative reasons linked to the National Assembly elections in Venezuela, all academic schedules were affected to the point that many universities country have not yet begun regular activities. This situation severely disrupted the adoption of several crucial elements to kick off the International Biennial of Contemporary Art and the ULA-2010 International Symposium on Aesthetics in the dates initially patterned.

Similarly, considering the problems of communication and tracking of information between Cultural Department of the ULA and the Directorates of Culture of the universities that operate as collection centers for the Biennial and in view of the late onset of college activities, the Organizing Committee of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art ULA-2010 agreed to reformulate delivery periods of work. Reception jobs nationwide be held September 29 to October 15, 2010 at the following addresses:
• University of Los Andes: Art Gallery La Otra Banda. Av 5, Edificio San José. PB, Mérida. Edo. Mérida.

The International Biennial of Contemporary Art, ULA-2010, calls for dialogue between radically dematerialized visual languages that dominate the territories of the last two decades and who, appropriating the virtual concepts of new technologies, returning to the formats and material elements in the concept of "Marco". This is not the way to the virtual painting but later return to "Framework", in the physical domain, but infiltrated by electronic language "Display." The format of the "Screen" gives a possible material condition, and re-entry, deconstructions, the plastic, legitimizing the real from the virtual legitimization.
Similarly, it is suggested the coexistence intangible "Screen" using the various languages of digital art (video art, net. Art-net-art audio-visual art, digital architectural 3D models, video game art, holograms, digital photography, film-atom, virtual environments) with the visual materiality of the "Framework", in all its mergers (paintings, prints, photography, silkscreen, assemblage, mixed media, etc..), demonstrating the alive and dominant languages of our time.
propose a specific format, between 17 "and 21" for the digital art (benchmark measures which are fitted to the screens, monitors and projectors available to the committee of the Biennial), and between 21 and 34 "material for art (this means that only two-dimensional works will be received in the form of art material, with the top 86 cm size. x 86 cm.), to emphasize the limited space we inhabit and electronic displays to de-position simultaneously to mount them in dialogue, in both languages, opening collisions and approaches that are sense make clear the real-fiction. This will include without limitation, all the proposals and concepts, the "in-situ [Screen and Framework].

Haiti: With eyes on the short-and long-term, the IFRC increases its appeal to more than 100 million Swiss francs
January 16, 2010
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has revised its appeal for Haiti and is now asking for 105.7 million francs francs (103 million dollars or 73 million euros) to assist 300,000 people for three years.
In this appeal, which replaces the January 13 worth 10 million Swiss francs, maps out the response of the largest humanitarian network in the world to include a larger component of relief. In the coming days and weeks, for example, will be strong emphasis on trying to reduce the risk of water-related diseases or whose vector is the water.
"This revision reflects the need for sustained long-term support with the Haitian communities. The quake emptied himself to many victims of the few means at our disposal and many others need aid to rebuild her life completely, "said Yasemin Aysan, Assistant Secretary General.
Examples of longer-term assistance to include, among others, the reconstruction of housing and community infrastructure.
The relief operation is continuing despite logistical difficulties
This announcement comes at a time when vital relief supplies continue to arrive in the devastated city of Puerto Principe. Tuesday, January 15, two aircraft landed with 22 tons of aid. Today, January 16, a convoy of relief supplies and personnel departed from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to Haiti.
In the coming days, the IFRC expects to have at least 14 units Emergency Response (ERUs in English) operating in the field (for more information on these ERUs click here) including two "base camps" in full operation to provide all logistical and technical support required by the initial relief operation .
These camps also serve as a temporary headquarters of the Haitian Red Cross, as their offices were almost destroyed by the earthquake.
"Besides the equipment deployed, trained volunteers of the Haitian Red Cross play a crucial role in regard to saving lives, they carry out search and rescue operations in areas hit by the earthquake. But every aspect of Haitian society has been affected in recent days, including civil society, "said Mauricio Bustamante, Operations Coordinator of the IFRC in Panama.
"Part of our long term plan is to support national Red Cross to recover and be a stronger organization in the months and years ahead," said Bustamante.
