III. What are the Fundamental Principles The International Red Cross and Red Crescent?

The Fundamental Principles are:
.- HUMANITY The International Red Cross and Red Crescent, which was born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the field battlefield, endeavors, in its international and national, to prevent and alleviate human suffering in all circumstances. .- The movement is independent. Auxiliary to public authorities in the humanitarian and subject to the laws governing the respective countries. National societies should, however, discuss autonomy to enable them to act in accordance with the principles of the Movement.
VOLUNTARY .- A voluntary relief movement and unselfish character.
UNIT .- Each country can only be one Red Cross Society or the Red Crescent, which should be accessible to all and carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory .
UNIVERSALITY .- The International Red Cross and Red Crescent, in which all nations have equal rights and duties in helping each other, is universal. Link
Fundamental principles.

IV. Does the Red Cross is an NGO ?
No, the Red Cross is an international movement, although part of its action may be considered as those undertaken by NGOs 's, especially ONGH (non-governmental humanitarian agency) and for that reason can participate as one of them, the complete action of the movement is of particular characteristics, it is governed by principles and humanitarian ideals, signing international agreements with states, is the guardian of international humanitarian law, is auxiliary to the public but is itself self etc. The NGOs enjoy greater independence in their awareness on humanitarian issues, while the Red Cross to be based on its fundamental principles. This however does not preclude working with different NGOs 's and the state for purely humanitarian always considering the respect for fundamental principles and
code of conduct .

V. "The Red Cross is a religious movement?
No, the Red Cross is not a religious movement, is an international humanitarian movement, uses 3 emblems (Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Crystal) that have nothing to do with any religious significance, are the countries where acts which have confused the Red Cross symbol to the Christian symbol, giving rise to the Red Crescent and Red Crystal who also have religious significance. The significance of these emblems is purely humanitarian and regulated by international humanitarian law to use.

VI. "The Red Cross is a company?

No, the Red Cross is not a company because their work is purely humanitarian and non-profit.

The company is the economic and social unit, with profit, in which capital, labor and management are coordinated to perform a social production useful, according to the requirements of the common good. In the Red Cross instead as it is not a company has no profit, it seeks to improve management in order to be more efficient in their humanitarian work.

VII. Why use the Red Cross emblem?
The Geneva Conference of 1863 and 1864, which established the rules embodied in the Geneva Conventions, adopted a red cross on a white background as a neutral emblem that would be universal and easily recognized to protect attacks on medical personnel and facilities during armed conflict. This was not a religious symbol, it was simply the reversal of colors of the Swiss flag. As such, it was considered that embody the fundamental requirement of neutrality.
